About Insurance Dispute Service

We help consumers and businesses understand, assess and challenge rejected, delayed and underpaid insurance claims. Our role is to examine the insurer’s reasoning, test it against the policy and evidence, and explain the strongest realistic route forward.

Why the service exists

Insurance Disputes Should Not Feel Entirely One-Sided.

Practical support when an insurance claim becomes a dispute

I founded Insurance Dispute Service after seeing too many people and businesses struggle to challenge decisions made by experienced insurers, claims handlers, loss adjusters and legal advisers.

Our purpose is not to tell every client what they want to hear. It is to examine the insurer’s decision, identify where the real disagreement lies and help the client understand the strongest available route. If the policy or evidence does not support taking a matter further, we will explain that clearly.

Where a credible challenge exists, we help organise the claim, test the reasoning and identify the most proportionate next step—whether that means direct engagement with the insurer, a formal complaint, an eligible Ombudsman referral or carefully prepared litigation support.

“An honest assessment matters just as much as knowing when and how to challenge an insurer.”

Our role

What Insurance Dispute Service Does

We bring the policy, insurer’s decision and supporting evidence together so the dispute can be understood and approached in a structured way.

01

Review the Decision

We examine the policy wording, exclusions, endorsements, insurer correspondence and the precise reasons given for rejecting, delaying or reducing the claim.

02

Test the Evidence

We assess valuations, repair scopes, reports, photographs, timelines and other material to identify the strengths, weaknesses and genuine points of disagreement.

03

Identify the Right Route

We explain whether further insurer engagement, a formal complaint, the Financial Ombudsman, specialist evidence, litigation support or barrister involvement may be appropriate.

A structured assessment

How We Assess an Insurance Claim Dispute

Every claim is different, but the initial assessment follows a clear sequence designed to identify the real issue before further work is discussed.

1

Understand the Claim and Outcome

We establish what happened, what was claimed, what the insurer has decided and what outcome the policyholder is seeking.

2

Read the Policy and Insurer’s Reasons

We compare the decision with the relevant cover, definitions, conditions, exclusions, endorsements and applicable policy version.

3

Examine the Supporting Evidence

We review the available technical, financial and factual material and identify where evidence is missing, contested or capable of strengthening the position.

4

Explain the Realistic Options

We outline the apparent strengths and weaknesses, further evidence required and the route that appears most proportionate to the value and complexity of the dispute.

The standards behind our work

Four Principles That Shape Every Review

Our aim is to give clients a clearer understanding of the dispute before they commit to further work, cost or escalation.

01

Detailed Claim Review

We examine the policy, insurer’s reasoning, calculations and available evidence rather than relying on the rejection headline alone.

02

Clear, Honest Assessment

We explain both the strengths and the weaknesses and do not present every disagreement as a claim that can or should be pursued.

03

Transparent Scope and Fees

If paid work may be appropriate, the proposed work and fee are explained before the client decides whether to proceed.

04

Appropriate Escalation

We aim to match the response to the evidence, value, complexity, urgency and stage reached—not escalate for the sake of it.

Different disputes require different routes

From Insurer Challenge to Specialist Litigation Support

The strongest next step depends on the claimant, policy, evidence, value, eligibility, time limits and whether the insurer has already issued a final response.

1

Insurer Engagement and Formal Complaint

A focused challenge can address the insurer’s reasoning, correct errors, present supporting evidence and identify the outcome being requested.

2

Financial Ombudsman

Where the claimant and complaint are eligible, the Financial Ombudsman may consider the policy, evidence, relevant law and whether the insurer acted fairly and reasonably.

3

Litigation and Direct Access Barristers

Higher-value or legally complex disputes may require case preparation, pre-action work or proceedings, with specialist barrister involvement where appropriate.

Common questions

About Insurance Dispute Service

General information about who we help, how the review works and the routes that may be available.

What does Insurance Dispute Service do?

We review disputed insurance claims, including the policy wording, insurer’s reasoning, supporting evidence, valuations and settlement calculations. We then explain the apparent strengths, weaknesses and realistic next-step options.

Who founded Insurance Dispute Service?

Insurance Dispute Service was founded by Gary Smith to provide consumers and businesses with informed, practical assistance when an insurance claim becomes a dispute.

Do you assist both consumers and businesses?

Yes. We assess claims for individuals, households and commercial policyholders. The correct route can differ depending on the type of claimant, policy, value, evidence and eligibility for complaint services.

What types of insurance claim problems do you review?

We review rejected claims, low settlement offers, delayed claims, non-disclosure allegations, policy exclusions, fraud allegations, underinsurance and disputes about wear and tear, as well as a range of personal and commercial claim types.

What happens during the initial review?

We identify what has happened, read the insurer’s decision and available policy material, consider the principal evidence and determine what further information may be needed before the realistic options can be explained.

Is the initial claim review free and confidential?

Yes. The initial review is free, confidential and carries no obligation to proceed. If further paid work may be suitable, its proposed scope and pricing will be explained before you decide.

Can you guarantee that my insurer’s decision will be changed?

No. An insurance dispute depends on the policy, facts, evidence, applicable rules and stage reached. We provide an honest assessment and will explain where the available material does not support taking the matter further.

How are fees handled?

The initial review is free. If further work is considered appropriate, the proposed tasks and fee will be explained before any paid work begins, allowing you to make an informed decision.

Can you help with a Financial Ombudsman complaint?

Potentially, where the claimant and complaint are eligible. We can help examine the insurer’s final response, organise the relevant material and identify the issues that may need to be presented clearly.

Do I need a solicitor to instruct a barrister?

Not always. A suitably trained and authorised Public/Direct Access barrister may potentially advise, draft documents and represent an individual or business without a solicitor. Not every matter is suitable, and separate litigation support or an authorised litigator may still be required.

How do I ask for a claim review?

Complete the Free Claim Review form with your contact details and a short explanation of the dispute. Include the insurer’s decision, policy wording and principal evidence where these are available.

Information on this page is general. The assistance and route available in any matter depend on the claimant, policy, facts, evidence, eligibility, applicable law and time limits.
